Autocad 13/14 network file server issue

Hello,

I have about 20 users on our network using mapped drives for drawings and support files. Temp files are set to local. And I have alot of unanswered questions.

Our issue is during times when our server is tasked very heavily and network drive can become unresposive, such as a large file transfer over the network on the same server hosting drawings and support files, anyone in autocad at the time has issues. Autocad becomes unresponsive and locks up.

Doesn't autocad pull all of the needed data down into temp folders such as Xrefs and so on? How can I take away autocads constant need to check the network? Why does it become unresposive, during high traffic times, when users are not loading or saving to the network (some say even when typing a command during times when the drives are "down" can put autocad into "not responding")? I assumed this could be solved by a more powerful server but that is not an option, yet.  Having a borrowed liscense during this time does not solve this, thinking it might be our liscense server.

most users are on Dell precisions with GTX 670s in them, so in no way do I believe it to be local PC performance.

Thank you.
