lines changing

Hey guys, we have a customer that is using autocad 14, when we receive the drawings we view it in draftsight before we send it out to our shop to start manufacturing the parts..  Our problem is when we ope the drawing in a different cad program, our lines that are dotted turns to solid lines, and sometimes lose lines.. what causes this?
