Hi, I work for an Urban Planning/urban design company, and we use Autocad LT daily for the design of new suburbs in growth areas.
We usually start with a site area, which we then design a community for. Once that is done, we need to calculate how many hectares of residential, open space, roads, community facilities, activity centers we have in that area. We have each use separated out onto a different layer.
At the moment we are using the area tool to calculate the various closed polygons on each layer before entering them into an excel spreadsheet to create what we call a 'land-budget'.
Is there a more efficient way, perhaps using a macro extension, which can calculate the areas of the polygons on each layer, then exports those numbers to excel so we have a ‘live’ land-budget, which represents the different uses for that site?
I have no idea if this is possible. Any other more effieicnt sugegstions are welcome.
Cheers.
Nate
