Using Associative Dimensions with Blocks
I have a need to dimension points. The points are circles with a solid hatch that make up a block, nested into another block. The problem is, these dot locations are not final and may change. If they change, I want to simply modify the block since it's typical.
I run into a problem when I make a change to the block with the dots nested in it. When I move the dots, save and close the block, the dimensions that are associative don't update. I've run the DIMUPDATE command, confirmed that my DIMASSOC variable is set to 2.
I tried dimensioning the same objects with the main block exploded. Leaving me to have to move the dots one by one. That worked just fine.
So, does the associative dimensions not work with objects within a block? Can anyone else confirm that they've had this issue? Is there a workaround?
Thanks in advance,
Shawn
AutoCAD 2014 File Switching
Ok ladies, gentlemen, and all the intellectual beings out there.
I am currently having an issue when multiple drawings are opened together/or seperately (yes I have tried both) and when periodically not working on the drawing file I have currently selected it switches to a different file that is tabbed that I opened. Is there something I can do to fix this, or is this a glitch that has yet been fixed? In my work field I usually have anywhere from 4-10 drawings open at a time.
Thanks!
Block editor changes scale
I searched the forums but didn't find anything on this problem.
Here is the problem. When you enter model space through the maximized viewport the block editor will change your annotation to 1:1.
For example: If I am working through the maximized viewport and edit a block. When I close the block editor, If there is more than one viewport I am brought back to the drawing through the next viewport, not the one I was working in. Then I have to go to the correct viewport, once there the annotation through the maximized viewport is 1:1. Paper space still tells you your scale is the same. To correct this you have to go to paper space, unlock your viewport, pick any other scale, go back to the scale you want, then go back through the maximized viewport. Is there a setting that needs to be changed? Or a fix to correct the problem?
Thanks,
Sarah Heath
Unable to save back dwg file to webdav server
Hello Team,
My system config :
Windows7
IIS7.5
We have hosted our webdav server on IIS7.5
My problem :
When i try to save dwg file from webfolders , I am getting this error as... file is used by another sesssion and so the changes are saved to tmp file.
I have sample application without webdav , there saving is working fine without any issues..
Problem is only when i try to save via Webdav
i referred :
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-2013-2014-2015/Unable-to-save-AutoCAD-Files/m-p/3530024#M3510
tried everything that is mentioned in this post.
some said this might be because of antivirus , even after disabling antivirus in my system no use.
I checked permissions, have given full control on the users.
Tested in licensed version of AutoCad2014. still no use.
checked with locks on files ..all files are locking and unlocking properly . No issues there .
In my application only dwl & dwl2 files are created and then my changes are saved to .tmp file.
Thats all. No .bak file is created.
Now i donno what else i need to check.I donno how to proceed also.
Please help .. what else need to be done. ??
NOTE: I tried to attached charles and fiddler recording but i guess these files are not supported.
Inserting an image with its path?
block with weird preview thumbnail
I have a block that has trouble with the preview image that comes up as a thumbnail on the right column in design center. The image always just shows a dot, instead of the correct image. I have tried going into the file I'm pulling the block from and using _blockicon, but no luck. I tried going into the file I'm pulling the block from and zooming to extents and selecting all to see if maybe there was some stray mark that the computer might be trying to use as the preview. Again, no luck. What else could I try to fix the problem? (this was previously posted but I have re-posted so I could include the referenced file.
Wipeoutframe resets to "1" each time the file is opened
Hi,
I'm having some trouble with my CAD files recently. I have typically been using wipeouts within blocks for quite some time and always kept the variable for all my frames set at "2", visible but not printing. Since last night, each time I open a file, the wipeoutframe has been reset to "1", visible and prints, where the others are untouched. This is proving to be a very annoying factor to work around as we are preparing sets to be sent out for print soon. I have checked the FRAMES variable and that resets to "3" even if I try to set that at "2".
Is there another system variable I am missing or may have accidentally changed?
Xrefs and Layer Managers
This is most likely a basic question... but I can't figure it out....
I'm trying to create and apply a layer manager to new drawings I am creating by Xrefing my base plan into the new drawing. I've tried various things to attempt to get the LMAN to apply after closing and reopening my newly created drawing but haven't been successful.
I've tried creating the LMAN in the original drawing I am Xrefing, I've created the LMANs in the new drawings I am creating with the Xref imported. When I exit the drawing and open back up, my layer progress is reverted to the origional state and if I try to reapply the LMAN it doesn't do anything - or not what it was set up to do. I've tried playing with Visretain and that doesn't seem to help either.
Am I approaching this wrong? Any help is appreciated!!!
Texture map problems when rendering in AutoCAD.
I have an exhibit with materials and lights are applied, there are texture maps applied to represent graphics on some of the solids. When I render the front of the exhibit everything looks great. when I render the back of the exhibit where ever there are texture maps applied they render black. I discovered if I rotate the whole exhibit 180 the graphics then render ok but the ones now in the back render black. Anyone know why or has experience this? This only happens with the texture maps everything else renders ok.
Dynamic block attributes in visibility states
What is the proper procedure for creating a dynamic block with multiple attributes in different visibility states?
I created a dynamic block with multiple attribtues and visibility states to include different attributes. However, when I insert the block, the attributes don't show up for editing in their respective visibility state.
What am I doing wrong??

Viewport scale from properties window.
I just upgraded from 2012 to 2014. I typically would adjust the viewport scale from the dropdown in the properties window. In 2014 it is now giving me a live preview in the viewport as I highlight each scale choice. This slows me down considerably when there are many annotative/civil objects in the viewport. 2012 did not do this, there must be a setting somewhere to turn off this preview? Does anyone know?

Resetting F Keys?
Does anyone know how to "reset" the Keyboard F-Keys? I must have keyed something on accident because now all of a sudden when hit the F8 key for example, instead of the normal Ortho on/off, it is "cycling thru all the available autocad f-keys "Ortho on, ortho off, grid on, grid off, snap on, off, etc."...instead of having just the one assigned to it?
any ideas?
